Pipa, also known as “Rum de Goa,” is a premium spiced rum that beautifully celebrates the 450 years of cultural cohabitation between the Portuguese and local communities in Goa. The name Pipa, derived from the Portuguese word for barrel, is a nod to both the local Goan flavors and the colonial Portuguese influences. Infused with the enticing spices that lured Portuguese traders to the Malabar Coast – Black Pepper, Cinnamon, and Clove – this drink is a smooth and flavorful spirit and a spirited extension to the love of Old Monk Rum in the country. It boasts aromas of toasted hazelnuts and figs, a palate of dark chocolate with sea salt, and a balanced finish that leaves a hint of the spices behind.
According to IWSR, India’s love for brown spirits especially Old monk, even in the mass-produced value segment, indicates that the standard and premium rum market is set to experience significant growth in the next three years.
Speaking about their expansion into the brown spirits market lead by the legendary Old Monk, Anand Virmani, co-founder and CEO of Nao Spirits, expresses enthusiasm and positivity. He explains that they first entered the Craft Gin category in 2017, which has experienced remarkable growth, going from a small 12,000-case industry to over 320,000 cases in just 5 years. With confidence in the ongoing success of gin, Nao Spirits has decided to venture into the highly anticipated premium rum category to demonstrate their expertise in craft spirits and local spices. After spending four years perfecting the recipe and packaging, they are thrilled with the results and are eager to share them with the growing community of Craft Rum drinkers in the country.
Currently, Pipa is exclusively available in select outlets in Goa, a Union Territory. However, they have plans to expand into the national market in the near future. To stay updated with Pipa, you can follow them on their Instagram page.
